Praise the Lord.  Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.  Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.  Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.  Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord. (Psalm 150, NIV)

Anyone who has spent any time in church has heard that “we were made to worship the Lord.”  And I would guess that most of us agree with the sentiment.  But I think people fall into the idea that praise and worship only takes place in church with worship leaders leading us in singing a song or two right before the pastor teaches and that’s just not true.  Everything we do can and should be an act of worship to God, it’s not just about singing.  If that were true what would that poor man who can’t sing his way out of bucket do?  If the Psalmist had wanted only pitch-perfect singers he wouldn’t have admonished all to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!

God loves it when his children have a heart of worship.  A heart of worship positions us to literally make everything we do an act of worship to God.  Everything.  The dishes, laundry, vacuuming, gardening, teaching, driving, playing, playing an instrument all become an act of worship if intentionally and forcefully we turn our hearts to praise the Lord.  I think that’s the secret of the Saints and our greatest heroes of faith.  They knew the secret to worshiping the Lord.  It’s in the humbleness of every day moments lived to glorify the Lord.

My prayer this week is that, we would worship the Lord in everything we do.  Praise and worship without ceasing.

It’s all about you, Lord.  Every breath I take.  Every good thing in my life.  Every quiet moment of rest.  Every moment of authentic joy.  It’s all about you, Lord.

Bless the Lord, O my soul:  and all that is within me, bless his holy name.  Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:  Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;  Who redeemeth thy life from destruction;  who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;  Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles.  (Psalm 103:1-5, KJV)
