Food Revolution Day 2014

Each year Daja and I get pretty excited to celebrate Food Revolution Day, a campaign by the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation in the UK and USA, and The Good Foundation in Australia.  The day is about celebrating cooking good food from scratch and especially focuses on getting children involved by inspiring them to get in the kitchen!

Now you know between the two of us we have 10 children (yep, you read that correctly) and we firmly believe in teaching the kids from an early age to share preparations of real food with us!  Teaching kids to cook from scratch empowers them for a lifetime of healthy eating and will keep them from buying into the sneaky campaign ads of the fast food industry.  It sets them up for a lifetime of well-being.  We know how important that is!

Real food brings healing.  We’ve watched as Kristina’s niece was healed from autism through prayer and diet changes.  We’ve smiled as Anna (Kristina’s oldest daughter) learned to smile again having her yellow teeth from birth slowly remineralize and turn beautifully white and only from eating foods rich in minerals.  We’ve all seen decreases in allergy and sinus issues as we’ve learned to oil pull and nourish our bodies with healthy probiotics found in homemade kefir and kombucha.  We know the power of real food and we know the power of raising our children to understand the connections between food and healthy bodies!

This year we have teamed up with our friends over at The Urban Homestead to celebrate Food Revolution Day!  This Friday we will be teaching a two-hour class on “Getting Kids Involved in the Kitchen.”  We’ll be sharing some of our favorite ways to inspire kids about real food.  We’ll even have our daughters there sharing some of their favorite foods and stories!  This will be a great class for moms, dads, and kids!

Right after the class we will be hosting a 4-course Farm-to-Table Lunch that is not to be missed!!  Featuring local organic ingredients right from The Urban Homestead, Kristina is going to put her years of training as a personal chef to use in make an amazing meal!  Here is what’s on the menu.

First Course
Fresh Green Salad with Edible Flowers and Alyssa’s Homemade Dressing

Second Course
Super Tasty Tomato Soup with Poached Duck Egg on Sourdough Toast

Third Course
Lamb Kofta, Pistachio & Spicy Salad Wrap with Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries served with the Provision Room’s Fermented Ketchup

Dessert
Jordanne’s Lovely Scones, Urban Homestead Fruit Preserves & Fresh Whipped Cream

We know it’s not possible for all of you our dear readers to come, but we would LOVE for our Southern California readers to come on out and spend Food Revolution Day with us at The Urban Homestead!  Trust us, you won’t want to miss these events!!
