August Plans!

The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color. Often at night there is lightning, but it quivers all alone. ~Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting

For two and a half years now we have posted our meals plans the first week of each month.  I mean, we have been dutiful.  Consistent.  Unwavering.  Aren’t you impressed?  Well, never mind.  We are impressed with ourselves.  And now…..we are going to let you down.  Neither one of us is posting a meal plan for August!  There is just too much unpredictable about this month for both of us, that putting together any sort of coherent plan would have taken a miracle.

But, we don’t want to leave you high and dry.  So, we offer these:

August 2013 Meal Plans

August 2012, Kristina’s Plans

August 2012, Daja’s Plans

And have you checked out our TOOLS FOR YOUR PANTRY?  They are simple, printable, downloadable templates to help you keep an accurate inventory of your prepared meals and pantry stash!  These have been a lifesaver for us, helping us use the older food first so that we end up wasting less!

Recipes we recommend for August:

Curried Chicken Salad

Vegan Soup

Trout Pate with Yorkshire Pudding

Fermented Salsa and Cactus Salsa

Sausage and Spinach on Sourdough Pancakes

We have fun workshops!

We have a lot going on this month, including some great workshops, which you can take in person if you’re local or online if you’re not within driving distance!  Check it out on our events page!  Plus, we have an awesome thing to launch tomorrow!  And it comes with a giveaway and a sale.  (Are those your two favorite words or what?!)

You know that we love to celebrate amazing women and there is one in particular you should look up before August 27 (her feast day).  Any guesses?  St. Monica, who through her prayers led her whole family to Christ.  One priest told her, “It is not possible that the son of so many tears should perish.”  Her son, many know, as he is one of the most influential men in Christian history–Catholic or Protestant: St. Augustine. (His feast day is the next day, August 28, by the way.)

Happy August!!!  And be sure to come by tomorrow for our announcement and giveaway!
