Great Love

“I prefer the monotony of obscure sacrifice to all ecstasies. To pick up a pin for love can convert a soul.” –St. Therese the Little Flower

Oh Dear One. Are your days sometimes monotonous? Is it one long string of dirty dishes and diaper changing? Maybe it’s one long carpool.  Maybe you feel like if you have to make one more meal for one more ungrateful child, you just might be done with the whole thing.

Offer those little things.  Offer them up to the Lord as an act of love.  As you pick up those dirty socks, rather than grumble, “Don’t they know where the laundry basket is, for crying out loud!” say, “Lord, receive this act as love for you and love for them.”  In that way you will banish the darkness from your soul.  Remember that it is love that casts out fear.

Sure, you may not immediately feel any different.  It still may be a sticky thorn in your side.  But say it and do it for love nonetheless.  “Do not fear to tell Jesus that you love Him even without feeling it. That is the way to force Jesus to help you, to carry you like a little child too feeble to walk.” –St. Therese the Little Flower

It’s the little things in our days that make up the big message of our lives.

Offer Jesus that first cup of coffee in the morning…

Offer Jesus the patience it takes to clean up the spilled juice at breakfast…

Offer Jesus the faith it takes to pay the bills and know He’ll meet your needs…

Offer Jesus the unkind words you held back and did not say…

Offer Jesus the reassuring words you said instead…

It’s the little things.  “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” –Blessed Mother Teresa

Jesus, today may I be an overflowing reservoir of Your great love. May the monotony of my day be transformed into the greatest of sacrificial love. Love through me, Love in me. I offer You all the little things. Please make them into something beautiful for Your great Love’s sake. Amen.

  1. I really needed this today. Thanks.

    • I needed it, too. {{{hugs}}} Usually what I write is what the Lord is dealing with me about!
