Prayer for the Week of July 13 — A Thousand Tiny ThingsOn Jul 13, 2015 Prayer Closet 1 Comment Tags: Love, Prayer
The challenges of life can be really huge. Or at least they can seem so. So much is really out of our control. We can organize, prioritize, strategize, implement, reorganize and try to make our little corner of the universe as tidy as we possibly can. Then the weather changes. Things shift. Jobs change. People change. And all the things we had neatly controlled are suddenly out of our control. And there is nothing we can do.
Maybe we need an Elsa moment. LET IT GO.
In all the things we do not have control over, there is one thing we do have control over–our response. We get to choose whether or not we respond in love. Granted the feelings of affection may not always be there. But the response of love can be, nevertheless.
These days I find that there are a lot of things that are irritating and perhaps infuriating. Just being real here, guys. It might be the pregnancy hormones talking, but there are times I feel like I need to be a hermit in the woods for my sake and everyone else’s, too. But, guess what? That would not require me to love. Love is the road to holiness.
As Mother Teresa was so quick to remind us, we might not all get to do great things. But, we can do a thousand tiny things with the greatest of love.
A second mile.
A word of kindness.
A biting of the tongue.
A note in the mail.
An extra serving of dessert.
A forgiveness, unasked for.
A mercy shown when undeserved.
Lord, take these thousand tiny things and weave them into a prayer for transformation. Transform my heart. Transform my world. For Your glory. Amen.
