Winter Cocktails for Advent – A Slow Down Approach to the Holidays (Cocktail #1: Rosemary Moscow Mule)On Nov 26, 2015 Blog | Recipes 3 Comments Tags: Advent, Holidays, Recipes
Sometimes you just have to s-l-o-w-d-o-w-n.
When everyone else is running around crazy trying to get the last Mr. Super Hero action figure and they have forgotten the true purpose behind Advent, #thewaiting. We like to remember to pause. Breathe. Soak in the anticipation. And…pour ourselves a cocktail.
This Advent we’re going to be a bit tongue-in-cheek. Instead of writing about the candle lighting, the devotion reading, the prayer saying (which of course we LOVE and want you to do!!!!) We’re going to suggest some cocktails. Lovely little things to sip with your loved ones and we’ll even include mocktails so the kiddos won’t be left out. Each week we’ll post a new special drink recipe!
Take a moment, make a cocktail, and enjoy!
For the 1st Sunday of Advent we’d like to suggest a Rosemary Moscow Mule, Kristina’s FAVORITE cocktail!
First make a rosemary simple syrup. This isn’t completely necessary, but if you love the flavor of rosemary it’s worth the time.
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
4 fresh rosemary sprigs
Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, and boil 1 minute or until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, and let stand 30 minutes. Pour liquid through a strainer into a Mason jar, discarding rosemary sprigs. Cover and chill 4 hours. Syrup may be stored in refrigerator up to 1 month. (Makes about 1 1/2 cups.)
For the Cocktail
2 parts vodka (omit if your making a mocktail)
3 parts ginger beer (or ginger ale if your making a mocktail)
1 part rosemary simple syrup
dash of lime juice (or more to your liking)
rosemary sprig for garnish
Pour ingredients over ice and stir.
Adorn with a sprig of rosemary.
