August Goals

Goals No Comments

July was a month of big accomplishments.  Mainly our big road trip to The Reformation of Food and The Family Conference.  There were three of us driving (Kristina, my mom, and me) and it took us 25 hours one way.  We rotated drivers every few hours and didn’t stop except to fuel up and eat!  And we made the whole trip Fast Food Free!  Seven people, one week, 1350 miles, no fast food.  Woot! July Goals

Goals | In The Garden No Comments

July is here and so are the lazy-hazy days of summer.  Around here that means lots of outdoor time, playing, swimming,  keepin’ the grill hot and the drinks cold!  We’re steadily working on our Top 100 To-Do List for summer.  We’re watching the garden grow and have already had our first vine ripened tomatoes.  Lovely.

With all this fun we want to make sure we take the balanced approach for our July Goals and keep them simple. Read More

June Goals

Goals No Comments

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.  ~John Lubbock

May has come and gone in a flash!  School is almost out and the itch for summer has truly set in, especially since Daja posted our Top 100 List of fun things to do this summer!  Seriously, for us homeschooling mamas it’s now getting near impossible to finish!  I’m ready to get my fun on!  So in that theme of having fun we’re setting some great goals for June.  Remember to jump in wherever you are, so that you will always be prepared for “life’s happenings!” Read More

May Goals

“The world’s favorite season is the spring.
All things seem possible in May.”
–  Edwin Way Teale

April was a whirlwind.  We feel sincerely tired.  We started with a three day home revival meeting with Daja’s dad, then Passover and Easter.  We had a camping trip shortly after.  And then the kids took their yearly standardized state achievement tests.  Kristina’s daughter made the swim team and Daja’s son made brown sash in Kung Fu.  In the middle of all that we got a short bout of colds.  Yet, we shouldered on!  We got our gardens planted and that makes us happy.  We also have made our fermented foods (kefir, kombucha, sourdough and yogurt) a way of life.  They’ve now become part of our regular homemaking routines!  And that feels great! Daja’s Pantry After Three Months

Blog | Goals No Comments

So, it’s been three months since we started this Pantry 31 thing!  Instead of wishful  thinking, we’ve been planning to stock the pantry.  (See the BEFORE pictures.)  And here are the fruits of our labor:

My kitchen pantry, which for the last four years or so we have affectionately called the Provision Room:

The “extra” shelving in the kitchen:

The big freezer in the garage:

Look at all those stored meals!   Many of which I stored using this method.

I can hardly believe how much better it looks and how much more food and provisions there really are and I haven’t increased my food budget!  What?!  It’s amazing what a little planning can do!

“You might have a vision for your life,

but a vision without a plan is just wishful thinking.”

Mid-month Progress Report for March

Goals No Comments

Honestly, we cannot believe it’s the middle of March.  Where in the world did the time go?!

We are having a blast working on this site and sprucing up our real life provision rooms.  As challenging as it is to have goals, it’s even more challenging when you have a friend saying, “Look at the calendar!  Two more weeks!  How are those goals coming along?”  That accountability will getcha! Kristina’s Mid-month Progress Report

Goals | In The Garden No Comments

Wow!  Is this month flying by!  Sometimes it feels like I blink and a week is gone.

So the question is, how am I doing towards my February goals?  Not too bad if I do say so myself!

The buckets in front are the 2nd round of peas. I used these buckets for tomatoes in the summer so planting peas will help rejuvenate the soil.

Daja’s Mid-month Progress Report

Goals | In The Garden No Comments

Well, February is half-way through.  It’s been a busy month to be sure.  I had a birthday, we dedicated our youngest son, three of my boys are training to “star” in a Kung-Fu training video produced by their Sifu, three of my kids started taking piano lessons, my daughter hosted a book club (George MacDonald’s The Light Princess) with one of our homeschool co-ops and we had a Valentine’s Day party with our other co-op.  It’s been BUSY!  To top it all off, we had a cold we all passed around for a week.

And yet….. Read More
