“How can it be a large career to tell other people’s children about the Rule of Three, and a small career to tell one’s own children about the universe? How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, and narrow to be everything to someone? No; a woman’s function is laborious, but because it is gigantic, not because it is minute. I will pity Mrs. Jones for the hugeness of her task; I will never pity her for its smallness.” GK Chesterton
We come from all walks of life and are all at different stages of mothering. You may be like me and have more children at home than the woman who lived in a shoe (and your lovin’ every minute of it!). You might be the joyful mother of one. Or maybe your sweet ones live in heaven. Perhaps your children grew not in your womb, but in your heart. Maybe you have an empty nest as all your children have left to make their own ways in the world. Maybe you mother everything that is living within arms reach from the neighborhood children to the stray cat. Maybe you are the spiritual mother to many young people in your church who look to you for prayer and inspiration for Christian living. Whatever your mothering role, know this: You were created for this and your task is monumental. We recognize that and we honor you!
In honor of Mother’s Day, we have compiled a list of our favorite devotions from the last year. We’ve added spaces for journaling and reflection as well. The result is a beautiful ebook that will encourage your heart. It would make a great Mother’s Day gift for that special Mom in your life or as a treat for yourself! (You know we believe in treating ourselves well!)
We know that often the days are long and yet the years are short. We encourage (beg and plead with) you to take a moment out each day. Refresh your spirit. Drink deeply from the grace and glory the Lord has promised to those who walk uprightly.
This lovely moms devotional, written by two moms still in the thick of things with their young ones, is available now in our Books and Resources section.
“The only question that remains is whether we will let Christ’s love burst in. It will be inconvenient. I can assure you of that. He’ll mess with our plans and shake up the tidy order of our days. He’ll manifest Himself in ways we cannot imagine and at times that interrupt us. But, if we let Him we will be blessed. He will get glory and we can participate in that. That might be the most amazing thing of all. That we are allowed to participate in the glory of God.” –Grace and Glory, page 35
(From those who chimed in with their favorite thing about being a mom, random.org picked Renata! She left this comment: “My favourite thing about being a Mum is watching this little person grow and change -being there for each and every step!! And of course the little, warm bodies that creep into Mum and Dad’s bed on cold nights!!!” CONGRATULATIONS, Renata! And Happy Mother’s Day! The ebook will be sent to your email address. ENJOY!)
